Eckhart Tolle Is An Influential Spiritual Leader With A Path To Inner Bliss

Eckhart Tolle has been called one of the most popular self help authors in the United States and one of the most influential spiritual persons alive today.

His books have sold in the millions of copies and have been translated into more than 33 languages.

His teachings have circled the globe and been broadcast through such popular forums as the Oprah Show. He is most well known for his best selling books, The Power of Now and The New Earth.

Early Life Of Eckhart Tolle

Eckhart Tolle was born on February 16, 1948 in Germany to a troubled household where his parents often fought. As he grew older he became unhappy with school and battled depression.
His parents eventually became separated and he moved to Spain to live with his father during his teen years.
When he turned 19, Eckhart Tolle moved to England where he found a job teaching Spanish and German as he was fluent in those languages as well as English. Over the next decade he furthered his education at the University of London while he continued to battle periods of dark depression and suicidal tendencies.

In 1977 at the age of 29, he was experiencing a time of unbearable depression when he suddenly had an inner realization that forever changed his life. He began to question the self that was experiencing the depression and anxiety, and unexpectedly, what he calls his mind-made self, just disappeared and peace and bliss filled its place.

The feeling of bliss remained with him as long as he continued with his simple "being" and "observing the now." Eckhart Tolle developed a deep abiding sense of peace and spent the next few years in a state of bliss while he simply watched the world go by. He stayed with friends, slept on park benches, or spent time in a local monastery. He dropped out of college during this time and his family feared he had gone insane.

The life Eckhart Tolle lead drew many curious people to him who began to question his beliefs and practices. He taught his method to inner peace to many students over a period of several years until he eventually moved to Canada in 1995.
In 1997, The Power of Now was published as a small printing of 3000 copies. Eckhart Tolle and his friends would hand deliver books to new age bookstores to promote its sales. Through word of mouth and thanks to his appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show, sales of The Power of Now soared until it reached the New York Times Best Seller list in 2000.

Eckhart Tolle And The Power of Now

Eckhart Tolle hoped readers of The Power of Now would get a small glimpse of enlightenment as a result of exposure to his self help advice. He also felt his book could play a part in transforming human consciousness in general.

The book itself is presented in a question and answer format. The questions are common ones that arose during his years of counseling and holding workshops. Eckhart Tolle advises not to get attached to his words as he believes a true spiritual teacher doesn't teach with words that instruct but rather helps his students dissolve their blocks to living in the now.

Eckhart Tolle is not associated with any particular religion but he draws from several and quotes a variety of spiritual leaders such as Christ and Buddha. He teaches in The Power of Now that there is life that is manifested that we see all around us, and life that is unmanifested, or the life that is beyond form and called "being."

The Power of Now
offers hope that we can transform our consciousness and become free of our ego minds. That leaves us free to live deeply in the now, or the present moment. Living in the now holds the promise of increased joy of being, along with acceptance and connectedness to all of life.

Eckhart Tolle And A New Earth

A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose was published in 2005 and after being selected by the Oprah Book Club in 2008, it went on to become a best seller, selling millions of copies worldwide.

Eckhart Tolle did not offer new self help advice in this follow-up book, but wanted to use it to help people awaken or shift their consciousness.

A New Earth is written in a different format than his earlier book and is more of an essay that describes how living in the now can have a societal impact and change humanity for the better. The ultimate goal is for each individual to live a bliss filled life and therefore bring an era of peace and tranquility to earth.

More and more books are also becoming available as ebooks and audibles.
