Intro: I Can Help You - But How?

development plan
You want personal development / self improvement and now you're looking for a self improvement plan. That's great! By coming here, you're well on your way.

I can help you on many different levels, and in several different ways. I am offering you something you'll find nowhere else. (Or, if you find something like this, you'll know they've copied it from here).

I can offer you several different types, and you get to pick the one that suits you best. It all depends on who you are and where you're at in your life and your personal development.

Generally speaking you get to choose between three types of personal development plan: goal oriented, person oriented or method/principle oriented. Here's a brief description of each type - links for deeper articles about each one is on the way.

The Goal Oriented Plan

There's the general type of plan for your growth and development which is focused mostly on what you want to achieve.

This is the traditional kind of personal development plan, more or less. When you search the Internet, odds are this is the type you will meet.

I will provide you with both a helicopter view of this - and a detailed example of a self improvement plan of this type. (If you can just wait a while).

The Person Oriented Plan

There's the type of plan that's specific for you, which depends on who you are in terms of personality, habits, tendencies, preferences, etc.

This type is focused on how to develop you as a person.

This kind of plan doesn't require personal one on one coaching (though that might help and speed up the process), but it does require you to do some tests to find out more about yourself (if you haven't already).

I've got some free tests you can do with this in mind, and more are on the way.

The Method or Principle Oriented Plan

Finally there's the general type of plan which is basically more of a method or a principle that you can apply to problems and challenges in your life (or even to your entire life all at once).

Every time a difficult and unpleasant 'something' arises in your experience you can use this kind of personal development plan to both fix the issue and move on in terms of personal growth and development.

This kind of personal development plan is versatile tool you can bring with you where ever you go, sort of like a pocket Swiss army knife.

My all time preferred method / principle is Letting Go.

How Easy, Fast, Efficient, Scary and Safe Is Each Type of Self Improvement Plan?

All of the above three kinds of personal development plans are tried and tested. They work beautifully.

If you ask me how (potentially) easy, fast, powerful, scary and safe each method is, I would rank them like this (from 0 to 10 with 10 being the highest score):

Characteristics of the goal oriented (or: traditional) kind of P.D. plan

Easy to do (simple): 5 (medium easy)
Fast working (how soon you'll experience the effects): 3 (slow)
Powerful (efficient in terms of personal development): 3 (not so efficient)
Scary (brings out your fear): 3 (not so scary)
Safe: 10 (extremely safe)

Characteristics of the person oriented kind of P.D. plan

Easy to do (simple): 3 (not so easy to do)
Fast working (how soon you'll experience the effects): 5 (medium fast)
Powerful (efficient in terms of personal development): 7 (quite efficient)
Scary (brings out your fear): 7 (can be quite scary)
Safe: 10 (extremely safe)

Characteristics of the method / principle oriented kind of P.D. plan

Easy to do (simple): 7 (quite simple and easy)
Fast working (how soon you'll experience the effects): 7 (quite fast)
Powerful (efficient in terms of personal development): 9 (very efficient)
Scary (brings out your fear): 9 (can be very scary)
Safe: 10 (extremely safe)

As you can see, all three types of plan are very safe. The primary trade off is between speed + efficiency versus scary.

The faster and more efficient the type of personal development plan is, the more it tends to bring out your fear. Not surprising, considering most of us are basically afraid of change.

However, please remember that the old adage 'you have nothing to fear but fear itself' is actually quite true when it comes to self improvement plans.

Which Type of Self Improvement Plan?
- Well, You Choose ...

Which type of personal development plan that's best for you depends on who you are, what your situation is and what you prefer.

In any case these different kinds of personal development plans can be combined, and I certainly recommend that you do so!

Obviously, if you're a very goal focused person, the goal focused type might suit you well. If you are interested in people and psychology, the person oriented type of plan might do you good. And (almost) no matter what kind of person you are, you can use the method / principle oriented type of plan.

No matter what, the best place to start is this: With you.
